Postpartum training log, week 5

 June 23 - June 29

For context, see Postpartum training - intro

Enjoying some trails with the dog!

Goals

This was a higher stress week as daycare was closed on Monday and Tuesday, so I was doing childcare for a 3 year old in addition to a newborn those days. We also organized a birthday party for my 3 year old on the weekend, which meant I prioritized efficiency over volume. My goals were to keep up a good mix of walking, running and some cycling workouts, as well as getting strength in.

Highlights

Although it seems like the rest of the world is experiencing a heat wave, we're have a cold and rainy June. So it felt positively luxurious to get out for a 3 hour hike on the only sunny day.

Nursing stop in the sun

Walk / running is still feeling good and two sessions a week seems to be a good balance of starting to build back a little without overdoing it. It's great for my mental health to be running after several months off!

I've also started to figure out baby Iris' naps a bit more and was able to get in a whole, uninterrupted 40 minute workout on Zwift on Wednesday.

Lowlights

In on other side of the baby napping was the day I didn't nail in and got 5 minutes on Zwift before she woke up!

We've also been experiencing a frustrating period where it is extremely difficult to get Iris to sleep in the evening (I start to go to bed around 9 but may not sleep until midnight). This makes me cranky!

Training summary

Hike: 22 km / 4h24min

Increase from last week due to the long hike in good weather on Wednesday.

Cycling: 52 km / 1h44min

A little less that last week, but focus on quality with two good Zwift sessions. I'm picking the sessions somewhat randomly now as my goal it more just to starting getting in more intensity with low impact than any specific fitness gains.

A Zwift session that quickly got aborted when baby Iris woke.

Run/walk: 15 km / 2h

About the same as last week, felt good

Yoga: 1h 35min / X sessions

Sleeping baby at the bouldering gym!

Strength: 1 gym class + one bouldering session

Same as last week
